Welcome to Year 5 - Pollinator Class!
Year 5 is a big step-up and in Pollinators we are enjoying new and exciting learning opportunities. We are stretching and rising to the challenges as we continue building on previous learning. We often revise and recap our learning to ensure it is embedded and secure.
In the Spring term we look forward to a new exciting text to read and some thrilling narratives to write. More to be announced in January.
Spring term news.... so sorry not to be in together today (Tuesday 6th January) please see below. I have set up three links for you of interesting activities that will help you prepare for this new term. English- based on The Land of Roar and Maths - some angles work ready for our new unit of work. Hopefully see you tomorrow.

Here are our routines across the week;
PE Days remain as Tuesdays (outdoor) and Fridays
Homework is given on Thursdays- due back anytime before the next Thursday. Please only spend 30 minutes of concentrated time on the task- do ask for help if needed.
Reading is brilliant and so good for us, it helps us relax and widens our imaginations- we still hope you will read 5 times each week; reading a bit aloud to an adult is great practice and means you can share your story. Ask your adult to record your 5 reads on your record card please. Don't forget to access audio books too- there are such good stories here to fall asleep dreaming of! Use your Sora Library login https://soraapp.com/welcome
Spellings are given and assessed on the following Friday. Words can be tricky in Year 5, so a little practice but done often, is best. Focus on a few words that you recognise first - then build up over the week.
Timestables Challenge is every Thursday. Practice your speed here https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Our previous text that we have finished last half-term was called 'Some Place More than Others.'
In this book, set in New York, Amara discovers her ancestors and her roots. We learn a little about some of the heroes of Black History along the journey.
We interviewed a relative and this helped us to write poetry. We followed the style of the poetry in the text, writing about ourselves and the memories, places and people who are important in our lives.
See our practice poems (below) as we build our skills-and finally our 'Suitcase poems.' They have arrived, get out the tissues- for our emotional suitcase poems. What makes you? What would you pack in your suitcase?
In Maths this half-term we will revisit multiplication and division and addition and subtraction as we approach problem solving, learn to measure angles and complete work on using different measures. Lots of interesting maths to learn that is useful and practical in our everyday lives!
