Year 5 Pollinator

Welcome to Year 5 - Pollinator Class! We hope the children have had a restful and enjoyable summer and are ready to learn. Year 5 is a big step up and provides children with new and exciting learning opportunities. We are confident they will rise to the challenge and continue building on previous learning as we progress throughout the year.

We look forward to the busy and exciting first half-term!

Here are our routines across the week;

PE Days are Tuesdays and Fridays

Homework is given on Thursdays- due back anytime before the next Thursday. Please only spend 30 minutes of concentrated time on the task- do ask for help if needed.

Reading is brilliant and so good for us, it helps us relax and widens our imaginations-  we still hope you will read 5 times each week; reading a bit aloud to an adult is great practice and means you can share your story. Ask your adult to record your 5 reads on your record card please. Don't forget to access audio books too- there are such good stories here to fall asleep dreaming of! Use your Sora Library login https://soraapp.com/welcome

Spellings are given and assessed on the following Friday. Words can be tricky in Year 5, so a little practice but done often, is best. Focus on a few words that you recognise first - then build up over the week.

Timestables Challenge is every Thursday. Practice your speed here https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Our Text this half term is 'Holes' by Louis Sachar- a story of injustice and bad luck! It is a time hop story and the plots interweave through the book. In the book there are some dangerous creatures called yellow-spotted lizards- watch out for our lizards on this page. They may be poisonous and vicious!

In our English writing journies we are writing diaries and letters as if we are Stanley, the main character in the book.
