Year 3 Nectar

Home Learning  06.01.26 (no heating)

Happy New Year Nectar Class! Not quite the start to term we all had in mind, but I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and ate lots of yummy things! Your learning tasks for today are explained below.

Maths – This week, we’ll be exploring our Year 3 unit on Time. To help you prepare, please practise the key skills you have already learnt by completing both the worksheets below. If you find any part tricky, there is a short video attached to support your understanding of both worksheets.

Video Links – Y2 Summer Block 2 TS1 O clock and half past on Vimeo & Y2 Summer Block 2 TS2 Quarter past and quarter to on Vimeo

Worksheets – Worksheet 1 and 2 are located at the bottom of the page and are labelled 'O'clock and half past' (worksheet 1) and 'quarter past and quarter to' (worksheet 2).

English – Throughout our English learning journeys we focus on aspects of grammar and SPAG. This week we are looking at practising, recognising and identifying prepositions. To get a head start, please complete the challenges attached below labelled 'Prepositions Home Learning'. Choose two activities from the booklet to work on. Remember, prepositions are words or phrases that describe place, time or cause!

Reading – Find a book and curl up to enjoy it with a nice, cosy blanket for 20 minutes! Be prepared to tell me which book you read and if you enjoyed it tomorrow. Remember to pack your books so that we can change them tomorrow!

Extra Task – Don’t forget to enjoy the snow and get plenty of fresh air! I look forward to seeing you all bright and early tomorrow!

Have a lovely day!

Welcome to Year 3 in Nectar Class

We hope that you have all had a fun and restful summer and we are looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you all better over the course of the year.

On this page, we will regularly share updates and photos of what we have been learning about so please do have a look when you can.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead!

PE Information

  • Our PE Days are on Monday and Thursday this term.
  • Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit, including trainers, socks, shorts (or joggers) and a Ropley PE T-shirt / jumper.
  • If your child has their ears pierced, please ensure they can take them out themselves. If they are newly pierced, please ensure they are bringing earring tape for their PE lessons.

Reading and Spelling

  • To help us make the most of our lessons and keep track of reading at home, please make sure your child brings their blue spelling book and two reading books with them to school every day.

Home Learning

  • As their home learning this year, we’re encouraging all our Year 3 children to spend around 20 minutes each week practising on Times Table Rock Stars at home. This is a fun and effective way to build confidence and fluency in timestables! Your child’s username and password can be found in their blue spelling book.

Autumn Term Updates

As part of this term's learning, we have explored many things, from volcanoes and types of rocks to recipes and soup making!

English

Year 3 did a brilliant job of writing newspaper reports about Stig the caveman going missing! We based our writing on Stig of the Dump by Clive King, taking the main character and reporting on funny incidents he was caught doing in public! The reports were terrific and included many features you would find in a real newspaper!

Maths

Additionally, Year 3 have been working hard to recognise fractions in maths, using a fraction wall, bar models and even pretend pizzas to identify which ones were bigger or smaller! Coming up, we are headed back to measurement, using metres, millimetres and centimetres to measure various objects within our school grounds!

Wider Curriculum

In design and technology, Year 3 made some outstanding soup, putting into practice their chopping and peeling skills! (No fingers were harmed in the process.) Furthermore, the children have enjoyed investigating and researching volcanoes, exploring positive and negative impacts in both human and physical geography. In Science, we have been investigating rocks, soils and fossils. We have used Starbursts to understand the rock cycle and undertaken a number of experiments to see how rocks react when hit with wind and water.

In PE, the children have embraced our dance unit, where we have been creating, performing and evaluating dances around kites. Year 3 have done a super job with this and have used canon to create dramatic, interesting and moody movements!
