Year 4 Honeycomb

Welcome to Year 4!

We are excited for a fantastic year of learning, creativity, and curiosity in Team Honeycomb. Below you will find key information about our routines, expectations, and what we are learning this term - check back regularly for updates. We are looking forward to working in partnership with you to ensure a successful and happy year for your children. Let's be the best we can be!

 

PE Days

  • Our PE days are Wednesday (indoor) and Thursday (outdoor) this term.
  • Please ensure that your child has the appropriate PE kit (Ropley PE T-shirt, shorts/ joggers and trainers) in school on both days. 
  • Long hair must be tied back and earring tape worn if children have earrings that are newly pierced or cannot be removed independently. 

Home Learning

Reading 

  • Children should read at home as often as possible (at least x5 per week).
  •  Please ensure that your child has a reading book in school every day. 

Spelling 

  • Our spelling day is Tuesday.
  • Children will be given spellings and tested on spellings from the previous week every Tuesday. 

Times Tables 

  • In preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), children should practice their times tables regularly using Times Tables Rockstars. Children are encouraged to spend at least 20 minutes per week practising. 

  • Times Tables Challenge is every Friday. 

 

Spring 1 Learning

English

We are reading the exciting novel How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell to inspire our reading and writing learning this term. The children will learn how to write an effective diary entry and explore alternative endings to the book. 

Maths

Our focus areas this half-term are:

  • Place Value 

  • Addition & Subtraction

  • Multiplication & Division 

Science

This half-term in Science, we are learning all about plant reproduction. We are exploring the different parts of flowering plants, understanding different methods of pollination and seed dispersal. 

History

Our history topic this half-term is the Vikings! Each lesson, we will work toward answering our big question – were the Vikings raiders or traders?

French

Our topic this half-term is portraits where we will learn how to describe the hair and eye colour of ourselves and our family members. 

Music

We are learning how to play the ukulele this half-term! We are exploring the parts of the instrument and will learn the chords C, F and G7 to play You are my Sunshine.

Art

Inspired by artist Dave McKean, we are enhancing our drawing skills to create a dragon sketch.

Religious Education 

In RE, we are learning about Hinduism and what it means to be a Hindu in Britain.
