Welcome to Year 5 - Pollinator Class! We hope the children have had a restful and enjoyable summer and are ready to learn. Year 5 is a big step up and provides children with new and exciting learning opportunities. We are confident they will rise to the challenge and continue building on previous learning as we progress throughout the year.
We look forward to the busy and exciting first half-term!
Here are our routines across the week;
PE Days are Tuesdays and Fridays
Homework is given on Thursdays- due back anytime before the next Thursday. Please only spend 30 minutes of concentrated time on the task- do ask for help if needed.
Reading is brilliant and so good for us, it helps us relax and widens our imaginations- we still hope you will read 5 times each week; reading a bit aloud to an adult is great practice and means you can share your story. Ask your adult to record your 5 reads on your record card please. Don't forget to access audio books too- there are such good stories here to fall asleep dreaming of! Use your Sora Library login https://soraapp.com/welcome
Spellings are given and assessed on the following Friday. Words can be tricky in Year 5, so a little practice but done often, is best. Focus on a few words that you recognise first - then build up over the week.
Timestables Challenge is every Thursday. Practice your speed here https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Our text this half term is called 'Some Place More than Others.'
In this book, set in New York, Amara discovers her ancestors and her roots. We learn a little about some of the heroes of Black History along the journey.
We have interviewed a relative and this will help us to write poetry. We will follow the style of the poetry in the text, writing about ourselves and the memories, places and people who are important in our lives.
See our practice poems (below) as we build our skills- and finally our 'Suitcase poems.'
In Maths this half term we will complete multiplication and division work, think hard about some fractions (pieces of cake anyone?) and move onto measuring, perimeter and angles.
