Governors: Who we are

The 1944 Education Act and the Department of Education govern the rules around the Constitution of Governing Bodies.  As a result our Governing Body is regulated by the Constitution Regulations, 2012 which details how the Governing Body must be made up.  Governing Bodies should have a strong focus on three strategic, core functions.  These are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

In addition, the governing body of a church school has responsibility for:

  • Ensuring the school is conducted in accordance with its trust deed which includes:
  • Adhering to the canon law of the church
  • The doctrines and teachings of the church
  • The canonical authority of the diocesan bishop
  • Diocesan policy with respect to collective worship and religious education

The current make-up of the Governing Body is 12 individuals, with the breakdown as follows:

  • 2 Staff Governors – 1 of these must be the HT or DHT and the other is appointed by the staff
  • 3 Parent Governors appointed by parents
  • 3 Co-opted Governors appointed by WGB for specific skill set
  • 2 Foundation Governors appointed by Ropley PCC
  • 1 LEA Governor appointed by HCC
  • 1 Ex Offico Governor
